Don't trash your fabric scraps - try this quick & easy way to use up small quantities of leftover fabric and trim!
We tested out two different styles of scrunchie - one with a double ruffle, and one with a single ruffle. We'll outline the process one at a time:
To make a double ruffle scrunchie:
Cut two rectangles of your scrap fabric measuring approximately 6" x 27"
Cut your trim to an equal length (here, 27")
Sew the short edges of each rectangle together to make two loops, press those seams open, then fold and press the seam allowance along both edges of each new fabric loop
Fit the wrong sides of each loop together, sandwiching the trim between each edge, and pin together
Sew both edges and sew the edges of the trim together (we used a quick zig zag stitch to attach the overlapping ends of the trim)
Sew a channel approximately twice the width of your elastic in the middle of your fabric loop
Use a seam ripper to open a bit of the seam across the channel on one side, and run the elastic through the channel (we like attaching the end to a paper clip and scooting the paper clip through)
Pull the elastic to your desired size, tie the elastic in a knot, and tuck the ends of the elastic into the channel. Voila!

To make a single ruffle scrunchie:
Cut one rectangle measuring approximately 6 x 30" (we added a little extra length to this one compared to the double scrunchie - to add a little extra oomph to the single ruffle)
Cut your trim to the same length - here, 30"
Sew the short ends of the rectangle together
Press that seam, press the seam allowances along the long edges of the loop, and fold the loop in half with wrong sides together
Sandwich the trim between the two edges and pin
Sew the edge and sew the trim ends together as detailed above in the double ruffle instructions
Sew a channel along the folded edge of the loop approximately twice the width of your elastic
Repeat the final steps used in the double scrunchie to insert and finish the elastic, and you're done!
